Advent Week 3- Joy

Good Morning,

In this third week of Advent, the theme is Joy.  I love this.  I immediately think of the song “the joy of the Lord is my strength”  We can find joy and peace in the midst of times of great trials.  This has been true of this past year.  Some days it has been hard to be joyful.  But…Our Lord is faithful.  If we ask, He will indeed give us joy in our circumstances.  Romans 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

The shepherds found joy in the news of a Savior’s birth.  Luke 2:8-11 “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.  (9)And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid, (10) Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  (11) For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”  They then had the faith to believe the angels and traveled to Bethlehem to see the babe lying in a manger.

In John 15:11 NLT Jesus says: “I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy.  Yes, your joy will overflow!”  If we remember Jesus birth and ultimately His death on the cross so we can have eternal life, it becomes easier to have joy.

We can be disappointed, disillusioned, anxious, and even afraid.  Jesus understands all these feelings, but we can still have “peace that passes understanding” Philippians 4:7 NKJV
With that peace we have the joy that our Lord provides. Philippians 4;4 NLT “Always be full of joy in the Lord.  I say it again – rejoice!”

I pray we can all find joy during the remainder of this Christmas season and during the coming year with all it holds for us.

“ALWAYS BE JOYFUL” 1 Thessalonians 5:16
