The Lord's Prayer

 Today I want to resume examining “The Lord’s Prayer” 

 

“Father, may your name be kept holy.

May your kingdom come soon.

Give us each day the food we need,

And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

And don’t let us yield to temptation.” NLT


Luke 11:4 “Forgive us our sins, so we forgive those who sin against us”


We are humans who sin. We violate the will of God. Romans 3:23 “For everyone has sinned; we fall short of God’s glorious standard.” NLT  

But….God gives us a way out. If we repent, God will forgive us. We are also instructed to forgive others as God forgives us.  Mark 11:25 says, “But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” NLT This is such an important principle that as Christians, forgiving those who sin against us is not an option. We cannot stand before God with unforgiveness in our hearts.


Luke 11:4 “And don’t let us yield to temptation” We have an evil spiritual enemy. We need to ask God for His protection so we don’t give into temptation. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 “But the Lord is faithful; He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. NLT.  We need to depend on God for wisdom and discernment to recognize the attacks of Satan. 


The Lord’s Prayer serves as a model on how to pray daily.  Start with praise, trust Him with your needs and desires, and rely on Him for your spiritual walk. 


When you pray the Lord’s Prayer, think about the phrases and how they apply to your life.  Use it as an example, not a rote memorization.

I have been thinking about discernment lately. The dictionary defines discernment as  “The act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good judgment” With the amount of information that has been given to us the past 2-3 months on the Corona Virus, discernment has been increasingly important.       “Is the virus real?”       “Who is at risk?  Am I at risk?”       “Should we stay home?”  “Is it OK to go grocery shopping?”       “Should we wear masks?”       “Is it all a conspiracy to control us?” All of these questions and concerns have come at us from TV and newspaper, social media and friends.  I have gone from feeling fear to having faith, from extreme concern to throwing caution to the wind, from anxiety to confidence.   All ‘feelings’.  After praying and reading the word, I am able to put those feelings aside and trust the Lord.  This is my guiding scripture:      “Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on you       own understanding.  In

Joy of the Lord

                                                                                  Joy:  a noun or a verb.  As I looked up the word in Vine’s Expository of Biblical Words, there was a long definition including joyfulness, joyfully and joyous.  I was looking for a simple definition. “The joy of the Lord” has been resonating in my spirit. A portion of Nehemiah 8:10 says “… Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength !” In my regular dictionary, the definitions of joy are: “a deep feeling or condition of happiness or contentment.  An outward show of pleasure or delight, rejoicing.” These are the words I think about in reference to my relationship with our Lord.  Sometimes I am “excited and rejoicing” but mostly, knowing the Lord is my Savior and always available to me, gives me a deep sense of contentment. Psalms 28:7 NET “The Lord strengthens and protects me; I trust in Him with all my heart.  I am rescued and my heart is full of joy; I will sing to Him in gratitud

Hope

Good Friday Morning, I have no idea how many weeks we are into this stay at home order.  I do know it seems a very long time! Today I want to talk some about  HOPE .   “ Hope  deferred makes the heart sick, but when desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life”  Proverbs 13:12 Amp Deferred means postponed or delayed.  What this says is what we hope for is not gone forever but “delayed”.  According to Jamison-Taussett-Brown Bible commentary :  When the desire comes or is fulfilled it is “realized".  The tree of life is "cause for happiness”. I liked these short explanations because I can apply it easily to our current situation.  We are all hoping the Pandemic stay home order ends soon  When our desire for it to end comes about, it will be a cause for happiness. The problem is the delay.  We do not know exactly when we will meet together again.  But… our God knows.  Our  HOPE  is in Him.  Don’t give in to despair.  Continue to pray and seek the Lord’s guidanc
