Advent Week 1- HOPE

 Dear Friends, December 3, 2021

We began our Advent celebration at church this week.  Advent is meant to represent an aspect of our spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Traditionally, the Advent wreath symbolizes the passage of the four weeks before Christmas.  It is typically a circular candleholder that holds five candles.  During the season of Advent one candle on the wreath is lit each Sunday until all of the candles, including the fifth candle, are lit on Christmas Day.

Our advent theme this week is HOPE. Hope has also been the ongoing theme of our church this past year.  We have hope because God is faithful and will keep His promises made to us.

If you put your hope in the outcome of life events, your hope can be taken away.  But true hope cannot be taken away.  True hope is in a person.  God is hope.

Hebrews 11:1 NLT tells us “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for:  it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”

As we place our hope in God, our faith will be secure in the promise that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 NLT

God allows us to encounter difficulties in our life.   We do not have to despair though, because we always have hope.  Romans 12:12 “Rejoice in our confident hope.  Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”

Romans 5:4-5 says, “And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confidant hope of salvation. (5) And this hope will not lead to disappointment.  For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.”

As we put our faith and trust in the Lord, we have the assurance that our hope in Him is not futile.

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him.  Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy spirit.”  Romans 15:13

Stay Well, Stay Safe,

Rejoice in Hope!
