God's Love

I was recently encouraged to ask God to show me His love in a way that I feel it deep in my spirit.  Not a mental knowing God loves me, or being able to quote scriptures about God’s love, but have a total sense of His enveloping love.

I know what the person is saying.  I have felt that love.  Unfortuanately, I sometimes allow outside factors to dull that sense of awe.  Business takes priority over spending time with God.  Praying, but not feeling His presence.  I allow life to control me… not the Holy Spirit.  Romans 5:5 NLT “And this hope will not lead to disappointment.  For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.”

Strong’s (#26) definition of agape love: An undefeatable benevolence and unconquerable goodwill that always seeks the highest good of the other person, no matter what he does.  It is the self-giving love that gives freely without asking anything in return, and does not consider the worth of its object.  Agape describes the unconditional love God has for the world.

That unconditional love of God for us, the people He created, is everywhere in His word.   Even when we don’t read the word “love” the entire Bible is about His love for us.  He rescues us.  He heals us. He gives us the desires of our hearts.  Ultimately. He sent His son to die for us and give us eternal life in Heaven with Him.  There is absoluletly no greater love.  If that does not touch us deep in our spirit we need to examine our relationship with Jesus.  I have been doing that recently.

John 3:16 NKJV “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Romans 5:8 NLT “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners”

1 John 4:9,10 NLT “God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal live through Him. (10) This is real love-not that we loved God, but that He loves us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”

Jeremiah 31:3
