Light vs. Darkness

Recently, I was reminded of a conversation I had with a friend.  She said she has her lights on in her home most of the day and evening.  I replied that we hardly ever turn our lights on during the day.  At the time we were living in our home that had large windows that let in a lot of light.  The home we are in now does not have large windows.  We have lights on a lot now.  Perspective can change everything.

Light vs. darkness; Good vs. evil.  I associate the two.  God created light.  Genesis 1:3-4 “Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. (4)And God saw that the light was good.  Then He separated the light from the darkness.”

The light is for us.  It makes it possible for us to live and grow.  Without light there would be emptiness and death.  This is true for the natural world and spiritual realm.

I equate light that is good, to God, and evil and darkness to Satan.  John 8:12 NLT “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, I am the light of the world.  If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Darkness is not the opposite of light but the absence of light.

Spiritually, without Jesus we would be in the dark.  We would not see clearly the path God has for us.  Ephesians 5:8 NLT “For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord.  So live as people of light!”

People who turn their backs on the Lord, have lost their connection with the true light and live in darkness.  They are spiritually blind. That blindness affects the world we live in, which can feel dark and oppressive.

Evil lives in darkness.  Proverbs 4:19 NLT “But the way of the wicked is like total darkness.  They have no idea what they are stumbling over.”

Let’s live in the light that is Jesus so we might shine into the darkness of the world.

If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.”  Luke 11:36
