Spiritual Discernment

I have been thinking about discernment lately. The dictionary defines discernment as  “The act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good judgment”

With the amount of information that has been given to us the past 2-3 months on the Corona Virus, discernment has been increasingly important.

      “Is the virus real?”
“Who is at risk?  Am I at risk?”
“Should we stay home?”  “Is it OK to go grocery shopping?”
      “Should we wear masks?”
“Is it all a conspiracy to control us?”

All of these questions and concerns have come at us from TV and newspaper, social media and friends.  I have gone from feeling fear to having faith, from extreme concern to throwing caution to the wind, from anxiety to confidence.  All ‘feelings’.  After praying and reading the word, I am able to put those feelings aside and trust the Lord.  This is my guiding scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on you
own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and
He will direct your path.”  Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV

There will be many more decisions to make in the days ahead.  If we look to the Lord, ask and trust His leading we will be guided in the direction we are to take.

Hebrews 5:4 NASB says:  “But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.”

I will continue to pray for discernment regarding our current situation – not only with the virus but all decisions you and I are currently making.  Our lives have continued to go on and there are always decisions to be made.  I will also continue to pray and proclaim:
Colossians 1:9 AMP  “ For this reason, since the day we heard
about it, we have not stopped praying for you, asking that you may
be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom
(with insight into His purposes) and in understanding (discernment)
      of spiritual things.”

God Bless You All

  1. I love this, Sharon. It is excellent and truthful! What a transition we have made during this season. It has been a preparation for greater faith when we walk through what is to come. Our Precious Lord wants each of us to be at peace in Him as the world continues to deceive, decline, deteriorate and downward spiral. He wants us to be perfected in discernment and will give that perfection to us as we ask. I pray that all of us will "see" what is happening through the eyes of His Word. He has told us what will happen so that we won't be surprised and fearful.
