Teamwork

I have been reminded these past couple of weeks about how important working together is.  As you know, we are moving.  It is an overwhelming task.  There is no way we could do this alone.  Family and friends have helped in so many ways.  Packing, transporting to storage and Value Village.  Helping me stay organized.

I was reminded of the phrase “Teamwork makes the dreamwork”.  It really is true.  In day to day life we need each other to achieve our goals.  In the church we need to work together and compliment each others gifting.  Romans 12:4-5 “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body.  We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.”  We need to be able to work together in harmony as Christ calls us to.  Paul directs us in Romans 12:3 NLT “Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning:  Don’t think you are better than you really are.  Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves by the faith God has given us”. We are not to inflate our own position nor to begrudge others their position.

It is tempting to exaggerate our own importance and believe we are the only ones who can accomplish a task.  When I was a young nurse, a doctor I admired admonished me by saying to never think we are indispensable or irreplaceable.  He said that if he was to die that day, no matter how good a doctor he was, there is always someone to take over.  It was an eye opener for me.  How do we remain humble and aware that we are not the only ones that can do a certain job.  Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

It is not only more efficient to work together, but it is more fun.  To have co-workers join you in a shared task brings a great sense of accomplishment when done.  It builds bonds of friendship and community.  Ecclesiastes 4:9 “Two people are better off than one, for they an help each other succeed.”

God has a plan in creating us all with different gifts.  Ephesians 4:16 “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly.  As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”  As we grow in our faith and learn to appreciate each other’s differences, we will grow in our love for each other.  Romans 12:10 NLT “Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”

Our ultimate goal should be to live by John 13:34 NLT “So now I am giving you a new commandment:  Love each other.  Just as I have loved you, you should love each other
