It Is Finished!

Today is Good Friday - the darkest, saddest day in our Christian history.  Or is it?  It seems a misnomer to call it “Good” Friday.  It is impossible to imagine the agony of Jesus crucifixion.  It is also impossible for me to imagine what His family and friends were going through as they watched Him being nailed to a cross and dying.  John 10:18 NLT  “No one can take my life from me.  I sacrifice it voluntarily.  For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again.  For this is what my Father has commanded.”

As Christian Believers we do not have to mourn and be sad on Good Friday.  We know the truth.  Jesus died, so we don’t have to.  Our sin that led to His death, has been atoned for once and for all!
John 15:13 “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”

For this reason Good Friday or the day Jesus died, is a great day in history. We know that only by His death can we be saved and live forever!  Sin separated us from God.  God knew we would never be free of sin unless He intervened.  He did that by sending His son to suffer and die on a cross on Good Friday.  Romans 6:23 NLT  “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
1Corinthians 15:3 NLT “I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me.  Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.”

The amazing reality is….without Good Friday there would be no Resurrection morning.  The tomb was empty.  Had they stolen His body?  NO…He rose from the dead and is alive!!

Jesus told His disciples “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of His enemies.  (23)He will be killed, but on the third day He will be raised from the dead.”  Matthew 17:22-23

On the third day Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene and then to His disciples.
John 20:20 NLT “As He spoke, He showed them the wounds in His hands and His  side.  They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!”

On Good Friday I remember Christ’s painful death on that cross.  I am overwhelmed with the reality of His suffering.  But, I know….Sunday is coming!!  I can rejoice and celebrate and remember Jesus words to us:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not
 perish but have everlasting life.”
 John 3:16 NKJV

Stay well, Stay safe

Wishing you a Blessed Resurrection Day!
